Universities and testing agencies increasingly rely on AI-powered proctoring software that tracks eye movements, facial expressions, and room audio during online examinations. Education journalists investigating these platforms have documented widespread false-positive cheating accusations triggered simply by poor lighting, unequal internet connections, or involuntary neurodivergent twitches.
The Bharat Media Association stresses that flawed academic algorithms ruin students' educational futures. Journalism holding educational software vendors accountable prevents universities from blindly relying on automated surveillance tools, defending students' fundamental rights to fair assessment, privacy, and digital dignity.
