The Punjab and Haryana High Court has directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to take over the controversial assault case of retired Army Colonel V.P. Bath. The court’s decision came after the family alleged manipulation, delayed action, and evidence tampering by Chandigarh Police. The case, involving a politically connected accused, raised widespread concern over police neutrality. The HC noted serious lapses in FIR registration and handling of the medical report, which further pushed the bench to involve CBI for an impartial probe.
