Media Restructuring: Widespread Layoffs Hit Newsrooms

The year 2026 has witnessed aggressive corporate restructuring within the media sector, resulting in sweeping layoffs across Indian newsrooms. Legacy television networks and digital publishers are actively cutting up to 10% of their workforce to transition toward integrated digital-first models and offset a heavily subdued advertising market.
The Bharat Media Association stands in solidarity with displaced journalists. We strongly urge media conglomerates to prioritize the financial security of their reporters during these corporate transitions, rather than sacrificing editorial talent strictly to maintain short-term profit margins.
