The Indian print media is facing a severe financial reckoning, with daily newspaper circulation drastically plummeting to approximately 60 million copies—about half of its peak a decade ago. This massive structural decline has forced legacy publishers into extreme cost-cutting measures, heavily reducing pagination and eliminating regional editions.
The Bharat Media Association views this as an existential threat to traditional journalism. Without immediate, sustainable revenue models to replace lost print sales, countless local newsrooms will face total financial collapse, leaving vast communities without reliable daily information.
