One of the most critical powers of the press was reaffirmed when the Supreme Court defended the media's right to critique public institutions, explicitly including the judiciary itself. The Court clarified that its contempt jurisdiction is not designed to silence uncomfortable truths or shield constitutional institutions from public accountability.
Bharat Media Association considers this a profound victory for democratic oversight. The press must unconditionally retain the absolute power to thoroughly investigate and criticize every pillar of the Indian state, ensuring structural transparency and honesty.
