The enforcement of the Press and Registration of Periodicals (PRP) Act, 2023 has modernized media regulation by fully replacing colonial-era restrictions. Implementing a fully online system through the Press Sewa Portal, the Act decriminalizes procedural lapses and drastically reduces bureaucratic compliance burdens for publishers.
Bharat Media Association views this as a vital empowerment of small-town and independent newsrooms. By removing outdated physical hurdles, the Act grants the Indian press the streamlined freedom to establish themselves and operate fearlessly in a rapidly evolving digital ecosystem.
