అంతర్జాతీయ మీడియా వాచ్‌డాగ్ అయిన కమిటీ టు ప్రొటెక్ట్ జర్నలిస్ట్స్ (CPJ) భారత ప్రధాని నరేంద్ర మోదీకి లేఖ రాసి, జైళ్లలో ఉన్న జర్నలిస్టుల అంశంపై తక్షణం చర్యలు తీసుకోవాలని కోరింది. జర్నలిస్టులను వారి పని కారణంగా నేరస్థులుగా చూడటం పత్రికా స్వేచ్ఛపై తీవ్ర ప్రశ్నలు లేపుతుందని CPJ పేర్కొంది.

స్వతంత్ర, స్వేచ్ఛాయుత పత్రిక ప్రజాస్వామ్యానికి అత్యంత అవసరమని తెలిపిన CPJ, జర్నలిస్టులపై నమోదైన కేసులను పునఃసమీక్షించాలంటూ ప్రభుత్వాన్ని కోరింది. ఈ లేఖ దేశీయంగా, అంతర్జాతీయంగా చర్చకు దారితీసి, భారతదేశంలో పత్రికా స్వేచ్ఛపై మరోసారి దృష్టిని కేంద్రీకరించింది.
