In a strong move to uphold press freedom and human rights, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notices to three States over recent incidents of attacks on journalists.

The NHRC’s intervention comes as a reminder that freedom of the press is the cornerstone of democracy  and any assault on journalists is an assault on the people’s right to know. The Commission has sought detailed reports from the concerned authorities, emphasizing that those who uncover truth must be protected, not punished.

“A free press is not the enemy of the State — it is the mirror of democracy,” the NHRC’s move silently reminds every citizen.
