Ahead of the assembly elections, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar announced a significant enhancement in the pension of retired journalists under the 'Bihar Patrakar Samman' scheme — from ₹6,000 to ₹15,000 per month. In addition, in the event of a journalist’s death, their dependent or spouse will now receive a lifetime monthly pension of ₹10,000 instead of ₹3,000.

CM Nitish Kumar said, “Journalists play a crucial role in democracy. They are the fourth pillar and contribute significantly to social development. We ensure their welfare so they can work impartially and live with dignity after retirement.”
