Taking inspiration from global models, Indian digital publishers in 2026 are developing daily logic puzzles to drive subscriber retention. The New York Times transformed its digital retention by acquiring Wordle, reaching billions of plays and establishing games as a cash cow for retention. Similarly, Hearst Newspapers acquired Puzzmo to deploy daily puzzle habits across its regional portfolio.
The Bharat Media Association notes that this "game-first" strategy effectively lowers customer acquisition costs by creating a sustainable daily ritual.
