Climate Reporting: Journalists Facing Extreme Heatwaves
Field reporters documenting India’s intensifying environmental crises, from 50-degree heatwaves to devastating coastal floods, are enduring immense physical hazards without institutional support. Unlike traditional conflict zones, environmental journalism lacks standardized safety protocols, leaving local reporters highly vulnerable to heatstroke, waterborne diseases, and infrastructure collapses.
The Bharat Media Association calls upon media conglomerates to institute mandatory climate hazard training and supply comprehensive safety gear. Protecting the health of our eco-journalists is essential for bringing the severe reality of climate change directly to the public.
