Reaffirming the unique power and position of reporters, the Bombay High Court ruled that working journalists constitute a special class distinct from general workmen. The Court clarified they enjoy unique privileges and protections under the Working Journalists Act of 1955. Therefore, journalists possess their own dedicated mechanism for dispute resolution.
Bharat Media Association highlights this judicial acknowledgment, asserting that this specialized legal status is absolutely essential to safeguard the editorial independence, fair compensation, and professional dignity of all media professionals across India.
