“The Price of Telling the Truth: El Salvador’s Independent Press Under Attack”

327

In El Salvador, the freedom of the press is facing an unprecedented crisis. Journalists who dare to report the truth are met with harassment, violence, and financial pressure. Media outlets critical of the government are being targeted, forcing reporters to risk their lives or flee the country. Independent voices are being silenced, and the public’s access to unbiased information is shrinking. Many journalists now live in exile, continuing their work from abroad under constant threat. This is more than a national issue—it is a threat to democracy itself. When those who speak truth to power are persecuted, society loses its eyes and ears. Yet, despite the danger, El Salvador’s brave journalists continue to fight for transparency, accountability, and the right to report freely. Their courage reminds the world that truth cannot be silenced. A nation where journalists are hunted is a nation where freedom is at risk—and the world must pay attention.
