The Danish Siddiqui Journalism Awards 2025 honoured five journalists for their fearless reporting, commitment to truth, and service to the public. The awards celebrate the legacy of Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist Danish Siddiqui, recognising work that amplifies marginalized voices and exposes injustices.

This year’s winners include:

  • Meghna Bali (ABC News) for her investigation into visa fraud affecting Indian students.

  • Sarvapriya Sangwan (BBC News India) for her Hindi series “The Last Man” highlighting marginalized communities.

  • Saumya Khandelwal (The New York Times) for her visual story on the exploitation of women in Maharashtra’s sugar industry.

  • Greeshma Kuthar (The Caravan) for her investigative report on vigilante groups in Manipur.

  • Vaishnavi Rathore (Scroll.in) for her reporting on the environmental and social impact of development on Great Nicobar Island.

Investigation progress and reporting challenges remain ongoing, and the importance of supporting independent journalism continues to be highlighted.

The awards ceremony reinforces the value of truth-telling in a democracy and the courage required to report without fear.

Will we continue to support journalists who stand for truth and integrity, or allow fear and neglect to silence fearless reporting?
