On July 9, the 5 Tribes Committee (representing Angami, Ao, Lotha, Rengma, and Sumi communities) resumed agitation with a sit-in at the Nagaland Civil Secretariat in Kohima. They demand a review of the 48-year-old job reservation system, claiming it perpetuates inequality and lacks consultation from non-backward tribes. Despite a June 3 cabinet decision to form a commission, no concrete steps have followed. The group insists on either scrapping or reallocating unreserved jobs to ensure fair representation. Their ultimatum continues to put pressure on the government to act swiftly.
