New Delhi - Chief Justice of India (CJI) B.R. Gavai underscored the vital need for legal awareness among citizens during his address at the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) conference held on July 27. He asserted that constitutional rights hold little value if people are unaware of them.

"Rights enshrined in the Constitution become meaningful only when every citizen is aware of them and is empowered to claim them," CJI Gavai said, highlighting the role of legal literacy in upholding justice and democratic values.

In his speech, he also called for collective efforts to restore and preserve communal harmony in Kashmir, emphasizing that peace and unity are essential for justice to truly flourish.

The conference brought together legal experts, judges, and social justice advocates from across the country, focusing on expanding access to legal aid and strengthening the justice delivery system at the grassroots level.

CJI Gavai’s remarks come at a time when legal awareness and citizen empowerment are seen as crucial components in building a more just and inclusive society.
