Karnataka Bans Child Engagements – Big Step to Protect Children’s Rights
Karnataka-In a major move to safeguard children’s future, the Karnataka Cabinet has approved the Prohibition of Child Marriage (Amendment) Bill, 2025.
This new law doesn’t just ban child marriages it also makes engagements of minors a punishable offence.
That means even if a child is only engaged and not yet married, it will now be considered illegal in Karnataka.
-
No child below the legal age can be engaged, even with parental consent.
-
Families and those arranging such engagements can face legal action.
-
The aim is to end early marriage practices and give children the right to education, freedom, and a healthy childhood.
