The Sikkim government has introduced a mandatory ₹50 entry fee for tourists from March 2025 (with exemptions for children under five and official visitors). Collected at hotel check-in and valid for a 30-day stay, the fee supports the Tourism Sustainability Development (TSD) Fund. Proceeds will be reinvested in upgrading tourism infrastructure, improving road connectivity, maintaining cleanliness, and preserving cultural and natural heritage. Travel operators and hoteliers are urged to inform visitors in advance to ensure transparency. This initiative aims to strike a balance between ecological preservation and tourism growth.
