📺 The Story of India's First TV News Broadcast

On September 15, 1959, history was made. From a modest studio in Delhi, India witnessed its first television broadcast through Doordarshan — a black-and-white transmission that quietly marked the beginning of a new era in journalism.

Though the reach was small and technology was limited, the spirit was enormous. Journalism in India had found a new voice, one that could reach into homes, bridge distances, and touch lives directly through the power of sight and sound.

At Bharat Media Association (BMA), we believe that this humble beginning holds a powerful lesson for all of us. The pioneers of television journalism faced countless challenges — technical hurdles, limited resources, political restrictions — yet they never lost their purpose: to inform, to educate, and to empower.

Today, even when hundreds of news channels compete for TRPs and ratings, BMA stands firm on the original foundation laid decades ago.
We fight to preserve the true spirit of journalism — where truth matters more than trends, and service to society outweighs commercial success.

Every BMA reporter, every content creator, and every voice we amplify carries forward the legacy of those early dreamers who proved that even the faintest broadcast could spark a revolution.

From one small studio in 1959 to a nation full of fearless journalists today —
the journey continues. And BMA leads the way.
