Global Press Freedom Index 2026 – India Drops Further
The latest Reporters Without Borders (RSF) report has ranked India 159th out of 180 countries.
-
Increased censorship, the use of "Section 69A" blocking orders, and the targeting of independent digital media houses are cited as primary reasons.
-
BMA is calling for the immediate implementation of the Journalist Protection Act to provide a legal shield against arbitrary arrests and intimidation.
