Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh:
In a deeply disturbing case that highlights the misuse of authority and the erosion of basic citizen rights, four Dalit youths have alleged that they were illegally detained and subjected to brutal custodial torture by police officers in Madhya Pradesh.

The youths, belonging to a marginalized community protected under the Indian Constitution, reported that they were picked up without formal arrest warrants, detained beyond permissible limits, and tortured with electric shocks and physical beatings while in custody. Their statements reveal clear violations of:

  • Article 21 (Right to Life and Personal Liberty) – which guarantees protection from unlawful detention and torture.

  • Article 15 (Prohibition of Discrimination) – allegedly violated by targeting individuals based on caste.

  • SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act – meant to safeguard Dalits from such abuses, was grossly ignored.

Despite these serious allegations, no swift disciplinary action was reported against the officers involved, and the victims are demanding an impartial probe and justice under the law. The incident reflects a continuing pattern of impunity in custodial settings, especially involving vulnerable communities.

Such misuse of power is not just a legal violation it shakes the very foundation of democracy and undermines public trust in law enforcement. Citizens, regardless of caste or class, deserve to live free from fear, discrimination, and violence at the hands of those meant to protect them.

👉 Constitutional rights are not optional. They are the backbone of every Indian citizen's dignity, safety, and freedom.
