Kargil Airport to Start Commercial Flights Soon

In a significant boost to connectivity and tourism, Kargil Airport is all set to begin commercial flight operations in the coming months. This long-awaited development comes after years of demands from locals for better air connectivity, especially during harsh winters when roads remain blocked. The airport has undergone runway expansion, night-landing upgrades, and required approvals from DGCA. Once operational, it will reduce travel time drastically between Kargil and major cities like Srinagar, Leh, and Delhi.
Officials believe this move will not only help locals and students but also open doors for tourism and economic opportunities in the remote district. Emergency medical travel, defense coordination, and winter logistics will also benefit immensely from this service.
