Civil Services Exam Registrations Witness a Slight Decline in Hyderabad
Prelims 2025 scheduled for Sunday

Hyderabad: The number of aspirants registering for the prestigious Civil Services Preliminary Examination has seen a marginal decline this year in Hyderabad. According to official data, a total of 43,676 candidates have registered for the examination in 2025, compared to 45,153 candidates who applied last year.

This marks a dip of nearly 1,477 registrations, signaling a slight downward trend in participation from the region. While the decline is not drastic, it has raised questions among academic experts and coaching centers about possible causes—ranging from exam stress, changing career preferences among youth, or increased competition.

The Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2025, conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), is scheduled to be held on Sunday, as per the commission’s calendar. This exam serves as the first step in the rigorous three-stage selection process for prestigious services such as the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and Indian Foreign Service (IFS), among others.

Despite the slight drop in numbers, enthusiasm remains high among those who have registered. Several coaching centers across Hyderabad have reported full batches and extended preparation schedules, especially in areas like Ashok Nagar and Himayatnagar, known hubs for civil services preparation.

Experts believe that the slight drop is not alarming but should be observed in the coming years for any patterns. “A fluctuation of 1,000 to 2,000 candidates can happen due to several reasons, including other career opportunities or academic preferences,” said an academic counselor from a well-known UPSC coaching institute.

As the exam day approaches, candidates are advised to focus on revision, stay updated with current affairs, and maintain a steady preparation routine. With thousands of hopefuls ready to compete, the Civil Services Exam continues to remain one of the most challenging and respected exams in the country.
