Kerala’s Greenfield Highway & NH Upgrade Projects Now in Limbo

Two major infrastructure plans—the Kozhikode–Mysore greenfield corridor and the conversion of 12 road stretches (484.6 km) into national highways—have stalled. Although initially backed by the NHAI and the Kerala government, no DPRs or groundwork have begun. With only 580 km of national highways in the state, these corridors were critical to ease travel and bypass sensitive forest zones. Kerala has proposed 17 new routes under its Vision 2047 Master Plan and requested Centre’s approval for 14 pending projects worth ₹6,700 crore. The lack of central action risks road congestion and hampers regional connectivity upgrades.
