Encounter in Kishtwar: Soldier Martyred, Terrorists Trapped in Ongoing Operation

Kishtwar, Jammu & Kashmir – May 23, 2025 — A fierce encounter is underway between security forces and terrorists in the Chatru region of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district. In the early hours of the operation, one soldier laid down his life in the line of duty, while another sustained injuries during the intense exchange of gunfire.

According to official sources, the encounter began late Wednesday night when a joint team of the Army and local police launched a search operation based on credible intelligence inputs about the presence of armed militants in the remote and rugged Chatru area. As the forces approached the suspected hideout, the terrorists opened fire, triggering a deadly firefight.

Preliminary reports indicate that at least three terrorists are believed to be trapped in the area, and efforts are underway to neutralize them. The terrain, dense forest cover, and narrow valleys are posing significant challenges to the operation, but security personnel remain resolute in their mission.

The martyred soldier has been identified, and a wreath-laying ceremony is expected to be held with full military honors. His sacrifice has drawn heartfelt tributes from both military and civilian leadership.

“Our braveheart has laid down his life for the nation. His courage and devotion to duty will never be forgotten,” said a senior Army official from the Northern Command.

This encounter comes at a time when militant activity has seen a resurgence in some parts of the Chenab Valley, including Kishtwar, Doda, and Ramban districts. Security agencies believe that a few terrorist modules are trying to infiltrate and regroup in these relatively quieter areas.

Residents of the nearby villages have been advised to stay indoors as the operation continues. Additional reinforcements have been deployed to cordon off the area and prevent any attempt by the terrorists to escape.

The incident has once again brought into focus the sacrifices made by the Indian armed forces in maintaining peace and security in volatile regions. The nation mourns the loss of a soldier but stands united in the fight against terrorism.

Further details will emerge as the operation unfolds.
