62-Year-Old Woman Acquitted in Cheating Case Due to Lack of Evidence

In a recent judgment, a local court acquitted Krishna Kumari Sharma, 62, who had been facing charges in a cheating case registered nearly a decade ago. The court found that the prosecution failed to prove the allegations brought against her.

The case dates back to February 25, 2015, when a complaint was filed by Ravi Prakash Gupta along with 35 other co-complainants. They alleged that Krishna Kumari was operating a "kitty" or committee scheme, in which each member contributed varying amounts of money over time.

According to the complaint, when the group requested disbursement of the collected funds, the accused allegedly refused. Matters escalated when the complainants visited her residence, claiming they were attacked by members of her family.

Following these events, the police registered a case under Sections 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 4 of the Prize Chit and Money Circulation Schemes (Banning) Act, 1978.

After a lengthy legal process, the court concluded that the evidence presented was insufficient to convict Krishna Kumari Sharma and acquitted her of all charges.
