Chandigarh: Determined to create a world-class learning environment, the Bhagwant Singh Mann government has launched an ambitious initiative to upskill Punjab’s government-school leaders and teachers through prestigious international and national programmes.

Under the scheme:

  • Batches of principals and teachers have already travelled to Singapore and Finland—countries celebrated for their cutting-edge education systems.

  • A third cohort is undergoing intensive leadership and pedagogy training at IIM Ahmedabad, one of India’s premier management institutes.

What the Training Covers

Participants are immersed in:

  1. Advanced, student-centred teaching methods

  2. Classroom innovation and technology integration

  3. Leadership and change-management skills to drive school-wide improvement

  4. Exposure to global best practices that can be adapted to Punjab’s diverse classrooms

The Bigger Goal

By equipping educators with these tools, the state aims to:

  • Elevate classroom outcomes and critical-thinking skills

  • Foster a culture of lifelong learning among teachers

  • Prepare students to thrive in a competitive, globalised economy

  • “Our teachers are the architects of Punjab’s future,” said a senior education-department official. “When they return, they won’t just teach better—they’ll transform entire schools.”
