Suspected Drone Found Near Indo-Pak Border in Rajasthan's Sri Ganganagar, Triggers Security Alert

Jaipur / Sri Ganganagar (Rajasthan):
A suspected drone was recovered Thursday morning from a field in the Anupgarh area of Sri Ganganagar district, near the India-Pakistan border, setting off an alert among security forces in the region. The incident occurred around 9:45 AM, when local villagers spotted the damaged drone and promptly notified authorities.

Drone Discovery and Initial Response

Anupgarh Station House Officer (SHO) Ishwar Jangid confirmed that he immediately informed the Border Security Force (BSF) and arrived at the site with a police team. The drone, which is estimated to measure between 5 to 7 feet, was found in a damaged condition, with its camera module broken and detached from the main body.

“We have seized the drone and called in a bomb disposal squad as a precautionary measure,” SHO Jangid stated. “The area is being combed thoroughly, and the drone will be sent for forensic and technical analysis to trace its origin and purpose.”

High Alert Near International Border

Sources within the security establishment have indicated that the matter is being taken seriously due to the strategic sensitivity of Sri Ganganagar, which lies along the international border with Pakistan. Investigators are probing whether the drone originated from across the border or was part of a misguided military exercise.

“Given the recent strain in Indo-Pak relations, any suspicious aerial intrusion in this region is treated with high concern,” said an official. The BSF and local police have since intensified surveillance in the area.

Background: India Counters Pakistan’s Drone and Cyber Threats

This incident comes in the wake of recent heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, during which Indian forces reportedly neutralised multiple Pakistani drones attempting to breach Indian airspace. As part of Operation Sindoor, India launched precision strikes on May 7, targeting nine terror camps in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir and Pakistan itself.

In parallel, Indian cyber defense teams have been countering a surge in digital intrusions and misinformation campaigns, with several Indian websites targeted in the lead-up to the operation.

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities are currently awaiting the technical and forensic report on the drone to determine its make, possible launch site, and intent. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
